The house was built in the 18th century and prior to the Second World War had been occupied by a variety of butchers, bakers, clockmakers, court clerks, surgeons, merchants and craftsmen. In about 1930 shops and artist-workshops were opened on the ground floor. Even now some of the most well-known artists in Klaipeda have their workshops nearby.
