Newcastle-under-Lyme School is an independent day school in the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, England. It is the product of an amalgamation between the old Newcastle High School (formed 1874) and the Orme Girls' School (formed 1876). Today, the School consists of a Nursery, Pre Prep and Prep department and a Senior School, including a Sixth Form. The Sixth Form, in particular, is known for its high achievement at A Level. The School takes both boys and girls from 3 to18. The School is a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC), an association of head teachers of the leading day and boarding independent schools in the United Kingdom. Membership of HMC is often considered as what defines a school as a public school in England or Wales, placing it amongst the more prestigious private schools. The School is consistently at the top of the league table in Staffordshire for GCSE results. In terms of A Level results it is one of the top performing schools in England and the top performer across South Cheshire, Shropshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.
