Hi, I put this facebook page together to show what I do. Trained in Swindon under Pete Holden who taught me traditional as well as modern plastering practices. A lot of the traditional stuff has died out due to lack of interest from customers, People aren't keen on paying for someone to level ceilings properly or to run coving in situ. Nowadays it's easier to buy cornice off the shelf than to have someone design and bench work it for them. When a customer asks for a quote for lime plastering you can see the colour drain from their face when you tell them the price. However people still want rooms skimmed and coving fitted. Skimming over artex is one of the most popular reasons for customers to contact me nowadays and it is a job that shows the most immediate result. Fashions seem to play a large part in the trade as well, lately wallpaper has fallen out of favour and the need for smooth walls that can be painted with minimum fuss and effort guarantees I stay in demand.
