Ogólne informacje

The concept of National Zakat Foundation was inspired by shocking and tragic stories of destitution faced by Muslim women in the UK, specifically in Birmingham. There were cases of homelessness and in one instance, suicide. The charity Mercy Mission UK which founded NZF launched a public appeal for the first time in Ramadan of 2011. At the time, funds were raised to establish the first housing project to support homeless Muslim women and provide a safe space where these women could access support. Since then, there have been a further three supported housing projects launched; two in London and one in Manchester. In 2013, NZF was spun out of Mercy Mission UK into a separate entity and registered charity, and was also launched in Canada and Australia. NZF’s services are accessible throughout the UK via phone and email. Our first Zakat Centre has been established in the heart of London, right next door to East London Mosque. The Centre is a one-stop shop, providing services for both Zakat payers and recipients, reviving a forgotten pillar for the UK Muslim community and honouring the Prophetic tradition of local collection and distribution of Zakat. NZF also has a community presence through Community Relations Officers in the Midlands and the North of England.
