Ossett Academy & Sixth Form College is a large mixed secondary school and sixth form situated in the traditional market town of Ossett within the metropolitan district of the City of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. It is a member of the Yorkshire Education Trust, supporting three other academies, and is also a partner school to Newcastle University. Ossett’s location in convenient proximity to the M1 has led to the town becoming more affluent in recent years, attracting both industry and resident commuters to Leeds and, coupled with The Academy’s strong academic performance, this has resulted in the school being oversubscribed with a waiting list for most year groups. Currently the Academy plays host to 1339 students in lower school, and 434 students in its Sixth Form College, making it much larger than other secondary schools in the area. The Academy boasts a very caring, supportive and aspirational ethos, backed up by outstanding leadership, management and governance, and this has brought along with it a significant rise in standards. This has resulted in a greater proportion of students than nationally making expected and better than expected progress throughout the academy, from their well-above average starting points. In English, progress is outstanding; in mathematics, progress is good.
