Thurrock is at the heart of the Thames gateway, on the north bank of the River Thames east of London. It is a thriving borough that encompasses large swathes of countryside, 18 miles (29km) of river frontage, and has national significance as a centre of major infrastructure and port capacity for import and export. The Thames Gateway is Europe's largest regeneration programme with fifty per cent being delivered in Thurrock. Sixty per cent of Thurrock is green belt with many historic villages. The network of busy towns and picturesque villages give us a thriving population. Alongside spaces of peace and beauty, Thurrock is home to Lakeside Shopping Centre, one of the largest shopping complexes in Europe.
