Founded in 1961 by Dame Fanny Waterman DBE DMus FRCM and Marion Thorpe CBE, the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition is a leading event of British culture, celebrating and inspiring pianistic excellence and world-class musicianship. ‘The Leeds’ as it is affectionately known has helped to initiate the careers of some of the world’s greatest pianists, and former prize winners include Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia, Dimitri Alexeev, Andras Schiff, Mitsuko Uchida, Artur Pizarro and Lars Vogt.
