Arvon is celebrated for its unique ability to discover and develop the writer in everyone. We run an annual programme of five day residential courses at our four beautiful rural writing houses – in Devon, Inverness-shire, Shropshire and Yorkshire. They cover a wide range of genres – from Fiction to Screenwriting, Poetry to Graphic Novels. We provide grants to cover some or all of the fee and around a fifth of all course participants receive some support. In many ways we offer much more than a course – we have sought to develop the perfect environment for your creativity to thrive. Time and time again we hear how surprised and delighted people are by the results of their week’s writing, and that the experience has inspired their confidence and creativity long after they have left. At the heart of Arvon is the desire to encourage anyone, regardless of their background, to find their voice through writing. About a third of our activities are with groups from schools, youth and community groups and arts organisations, many from the most disadvantaged communities in the UK. We are also now packing up our special ingredients and bringing them to the city, with three day non-residential creative writing courses.
