Mathis Nitschke is a music-driven theatre and film maker. After he started out playing the guitar and performing the sound mixing desk he studied visual arts and finally made his degree in music composition (at the Royal Conservatoire Den Haag), developing a strong conceptual approach along this way. He creates opera and theatre, art installations, films and concerts. Sometimes he works as a sound designer, sometimes as a composer, sometimes as a video artist; often as the idea-former and realizer. Described by a German theatre critic as ‘Tüftler’, Mathis works meticulously right down to the last detail and has a special interest in technology, software and sound. Not only is the artist interested in the interplay of text, image and sound, music, theatre, installation, radio and film,he also sees himself as a ‘hunter and gatherer’, a DJ rather than composer.
