We have been supporting people to live in their own homes since 2001. I started the company up from my lounge after picking up a self help book that had been gathering dust, originally given to my now ex husband. One sentence jumped out at me "who limited your thinking so that you believe you only ever work for other people " ? I had no money and no business acumen but I was feeling very positive. I was going to create the best care agency and offer the best possible service to older and vulnerable people. I joined several care agencies to check out how they worked, what they offered and more importantly what they didn't. I learned how to turn on a computer and then discovered all of its wonderful tricks. Six months later I was up and running from my lounge. I got my first customer from one of the homes I was sent to when I was doing the agency work. I then walked into a council building to try to secure home care contracts. I had call a few days later asking for help with a gentleman struggling to cope at home. I was still a one man band at this point so I supported the gentleman myself. The business really started to take off from that point. By 2003 I had achieved Investors in People award and the company picked up best New Company award in the County Business Awards. My lack of attention from my school days came back to haunt me and I realised I needed to learn some appropriate management skills so I trained while I worked and I had my higher diploma within the year....
