Mitcham Community Orchard & Gardens

This project is transforming a derelict site into a community resource for all. During 2015 and 2016 we built an orchard of fruit trees and bushes, a garden of flowers and decorative shrubs, a wildflower meadow, ponds and native hedging. The site development will continue during 2017 and the site will begin to open during daylight hours for access by all. This will be a leisure facility to be enjoyed by everyone, and will also provide an educational resource through informative signage and "Family Days". This transformation has been started by an alliance of Mitcham residents, Merton Council and Sustainable Merton with the support and sponsorship of local businesses, but its long-term success now depends heavily upon further business sponsorship and local volunteers.
